He was born on 16th October 1954, in Inharrime district, in the southern province of Inhambane. His father João Salomão Cumbana worked as a nurse, accountant and teacher. His mother was a nurse and domestic worker. He did his primary education at Carneiro Araújo School, in Inhambane, between 1960 and 1965, and then followed technical and professional training, having concluded basic level at the Industrial and Commercial School of Inhambane, in 1969, and medium level at the Commercial Institute of Maputo, in 1972. He graduated as an Economist in 1977, Licentiate in 1988 and Master in 1992. Even before finishing his studies, he worked in the Studies Office at Caixa Económica Montepio from 1973 to 1974 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Montepio de Moçambique until 1976. His main position was Executive Secretary of SADC, which he held for two terms - from 2005 to 2013. An economist by profession, Salomão, 51, has made significant contributions to the development of his country and the region, holding senior national positions for 22 years. He was most recently the Minister of Transport and Communications from 2000-04, and also held international positions such as chairperson of the African Union committee of ministers in charge of ICT development in 2003-04 and chairperson of the SADC Transport and Communications Committee (SATCC) in 2000-02. He was Minister of Planning and Finance in 1994-99, during the period of reconstruction in Mozambique after the peace agreement. During the same period, he served as Governor for Mozambique with the African Development Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Bank. His career in government began as Secretary of State for National Defence in 1983-89. From this position, he moved up the ranks to become Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance in 1990-94. Prior to his SADC appointment, Salomão was a Member of Parliament in Mozambique following elections last December. In his bid for the post, Salomão pledged to "continue the implementation of the cornerstones of our organisations, namely the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP), the Strategic Indicative Plan for the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, and other key instruments, within the framework of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD). During his tenure as Minister of Transport, Solomon led the successful restructuring of ports and railways, contributed to the modernisation of infrastructure, including ports, and spearheaded the successful telecommunications reform programme aimed at modernisation and competitiveness. Other achievements include strengthening the technical capacity of the national telecommunications regulatory body, passing a new telecommunications policy and law, and licensing a new mobile phone operator, which has strengthened the competitive environment as well as improved the quality of services provided. Salomão received his education in Mozambique, becoming a certified accountant in 1972. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economics in 1976, and in 1990 he obtained his Master's degree in Economics from the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, where he also taught economics. He holds a PhD in economics from John Hopkins University in the USA. Tomaz Augusto Salomão is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of Eduardo Mondlane University. He is a member of the Frelimo party, of which he is a member of the Central Committee. Married and father of two children, he speaks Bitonga, Citswa, Chopi, Portuguese and English. In his spare time he enjoys swimming, playing football, listening to music and reading. -

Professor Mário Vicente Sitoe is the President of Ordem dos Contabilistas e Auditores de Moçambique (OCAM) and Chief Financial Officer of Petromoc, SA. He is also an assistant professor and lecturer at both Eduardo Mondlane University and Polytechnic University in Mozambique where he teaches graduate students in governance, public administration, taxation, and business ethics. Professor Sitoe holds a Doctorate in Strategic Management from the ISCTE in Lisbon. He is a Certified Accountant and a member of the Ordem dos Contabilistas e Auditores de Moçambique. -

He was nominated to the IFAC board by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is currently the independent Chairman of the company's Internal Control Committee. Previously he was Chief Financial Officer of Jerónimo Martins from 2012 to 2014. Between 2005 and 2011 he served as Chief Audit Executive for the Unilever Group. Mr. Johnson also served as Chief Financial Officer of Unilever's Global Foods businesses and worked for Unilever for 35 years in various finance positions in Africa, Europe and Latin America. Mr. Johnson was a member of the IFAC Professional Accountants in Business Committee between 2011 and 2015, a member of the ACCA's Market Oversight Committee between 2006 and 2012 and chair of the Accountants for Business Global Forum until 2018. He was a member of the board of Gildat Strauss Israel between 2003 and 2004. Mr. Johnson is the chair of the board of governors of St. Julian’s School in Portugal and chairs its Finance & Bursaries Committees. In October 2016 he was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the International Valuation Standards Council and chairs its audit committee. Between July 2018 and September 2020 he was a non-executive director of the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and chaired its Audit & Risk Assurance Committee. -

Nuala O’Brien assumed duties as Ambassador of Ireland to Mozambique in August 2018. She is also accredited to the Kingdom of Eswatini and to Madagascar. Nuala initially joined Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs in 2002 and has served in Ethiopia, Zambia and Vietnam and well and Ireland’s global humanitarian programme. Prior to that she worked within the international humanitarian sector for a number of international NGOs. She is a seasoned diplomat with a background in social/political research and social policy development. International experience spans over a 25 year period with a number of long-term and short term assignments in Sub Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia. She has a diverse academic background with a Master’s of Science Degree in Social Research, a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and a Fellowship (Honours Degree) in Biomedical Sciences.
